Met Federation donates £5,000 to PC David Phillips Fund

The Metropolitan Police Federation is to donate £5,000 to the memorial fund in honour of Merseyside PC David Phillips.

PC Phillips died in the early hours of Monday 5 October after being struck by a van while attempting to deploy a stinger device to puncture its wheels. He was taken to hospital, but died a short time later.

A fund has since been set up in his name and has so far raised more than £200,000.

John Tully, Metropolitan Police Federation Chairman, said: “Following the tragic news of the death of our Merseyside colleague PC David Phillips, the Metropolitan Police Federation has arranged for a charitable donation to be made to the Merseyside Police Federation Charitable Trust in David’s name.

“The David Phillips Memorial Fund will benefit from the donation of £5,000.

“The support for the fund is incredible and demonstrates that the entire Police Service and members of the public alike have been touched by this appalling tragedy.

“It shows a bond that helps support those who need it when facing and dealing with tragedy and adversity.

“The Metropolitan Police Federation wish Dave’s family, friends and colleagues well whilst they continue to come to terms with his loss. We send our sincere condolences and hope that our thoughts and prayers will comfort them in some small way at this sad time.”
