Perry joined the MPS in 1982 and was initially posted to what is now Redbridge borough. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1987 and spent the next nine years of his career policing the diverse community of Newham in East London. Coincidently arriving at the same time as another fresh faced Sergeant, none other that Mr Mark Crake. In 1996 Perry was promoted to Inspector and given a relief at Bethnal Green. But within a year he was selected for duty with the Territorial Support Group (TSG) North East. where he remained until his election to his current role in July 2006. He became a Federation representative in 1997, Initially as the NE TSG rep and later as the TSG OCU inspectors representative. Throughout his Federation career he has been active in personal representation across a range of issues but concedes that Discipline is probably his strongest suit. Outside work Perry's all consuming passion is Rugby union. Whilst very occasionaly he still turns in social games, his main involvement in the game now is as an administrator and referee.
